Shane Murphy, a 40-year-old man from 213 Comeragh Park, The Glen, has been sentenced to seven months in prison at Cork District Court after pleading guilty to shoplifting on Christmas Day and a litany of similar crimes. Judge David Waters imposed the prison term following a catalogue of thefts outlined by Sergeant David Fleming.

Christmas Day Spar Theft and High-Value Loot
On Christmas Day, Murphy stole a small amount of food from a Spar store located on Douglas Street. While several other shoplifting incidents involved items of low value, prosecuting evidence detailed multiple thefts targeting high-value merchandise intended for resale.
Judge Waters noted during the proceedings that these high-value items were presumably taken for commercial resale. The stolen property included several electric toothbrushes. Solicitor Frank Buttimer represented the defendant in court.
"He is single," Buttimer said of his client. "Regrettably, he is estranged from his family and has a lot of addictions and while he has had periods of rehabilitation he has not been doing well recently."
