Baron Deshawn Crawford faces a charge of first-degree murder following a fatal Saturday night stabbing in northeast Charlotte. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department took the 31-year-old suspect into custody at the scene.
Fatal Stabbing on Round Pond Road
Emergency responders rushed to the 4900 block of Round Pond Road at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 26 after a 911 call reported the attack.
First Responders Find Victim Mortally Wounded
Officers arrived at the residential complex to discover 38-year-old John Joseph Perry suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Life-saving efforts failed. The Charlotte Fire Department pronounced Perry dead at the location.
During the chaos, MEDIC and police reports confirmed that emergency medical services transported a second individual to a local hospital. That person sustained only minor injuries.
Suspect Arrested at the Scene
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Major Brad Koch confirmed the severity of Perry’s injuries. Detectives quickly pinned down the assailant.
Officers located and arrested Crawford moments after arriving. Arrest records show that Crawford lived in the exact same apartment community where the homicide took place.
Monday Court Appearance Scheduled
Law enforcement officials stated that every party involved in the violence has been accounted for, leaving investigators with no active search for other suspects.
Crawford sits in jail without bond. Court records show he is scheduled to make his initial appearance before a judge on Monday, Sept. 28.
Police Appeal for Public Tips
Major Koch addressed the broader neighborhood after the bloodshed. He noted that the area does not have a history of violent crime.
Police have already notified the victim’s next of kin. Even with a suspect behind bars, detectives are urging anyone holding additional information about the homicide to reach out to Crime Stoppers as the active investigation presses forward.
