In 1995, Pike and two teenage co-defendants lured Slemr to an abandoned steam plant near the University of Tennessee campus. Slemr and Pike were participants in the Job Corps program. According to Knoxville police records, the group beat, slashed, and tortured Slemr before she died. Investigators stated a pentagram was carved into the victim’s chest, and Pike later showed a piece of Slemr’s skull to another student as a souvenir.
