The 27-year-old right-back, who fell out of favor under head coach Thomas Tuchel and missed out on the summer World Cup squad, delivered a cultured cross to assist Anthony Gordon for the opening goal.
Alexander-Arnold Embraces Return After International Absence
Alexander-Arnold made his first international start since October 2024, capitalizing on injuries to Tuchel’s usual right-back options. His last appearance for the Three Lions prior to Tuesday night came in June 2025 during a World Cup qualifier against Andorra. Speaking to ITV Sport after the match, Alexander-Arnold admitted the milestone carried deep personal significance.
“It was amazing, always an honour and pleasure to represent my country,” Alexander-Arnold told ITV Sport. “It’s been a long time, but I’ve always believed that I can play for England and I always want to. The belief is always there, it’s about proving it at club level.”
The defender has logged 292 minutes across five matches for Real Madrid in the 2026-27 season following his move to the Spanish club, registering one assist under manager Jose Mourinho.
Gordon and Tuchel Praise Match-Defining Assist
The breakthrough arrived early in the second half when Alexander-Arnold collected a loose ball in a half-space and floated a precise delivery into the penalty area. Anthony Gordon met the pass to score England’s opener against the 10-man Czech hosts, before Harry Kane added the second goal.
“I make that run time and time again and only a certain type of player has got the technique, ability and bravery to make that pass,” Gordon told ITV Sport. “Credit to Trent, that’s why he’s so good. I’ve been dying to play with him for that reason.”
Thomas Tuchel offered praise for the execution of the game’s opening sequence. “Not a lot could convert it! There was an awful lot for him to do, to guide it into the far post was an excellent finish. A good pass and a good goal,” Tuchel told ITV.

England continues its UEFA Nations League Group A3 campaign with fixtures in October. The squad travels to face Croatia away on Saturday, October 3, before returning home to host the Czech Republic on Tuesday, October 6.
