Federal officials rely on public submissions to map the geographic reach of seismic events. The U.S. Geological Survey encourages anyone who felt the Tuesday evening tremor to log their experiences directly on the agency’s website.

Automated platforms like Quakebot handle the initial detection and cataloging of regional temblors. Human editors review these computer-generated posts to ensure accuracy before news outlets release the information to the public.
