Production Team Behind the Targaryen Prequel Film
Beau Willimon, who served as showrunner on Netflix’s “House of Cards” and wrote for Disney+’s “Star Wars” series “Andor,” penned the screenplay for the upcoming movie. Owen Harris is attached to direct the project, as reported by Deadline. Harris previously directed three episodes of the “Game of Thrones” television spin-off “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” and serves as an executive producer on that series. His past directing credits also include episodes of “Black Mirror,” the 2019 “Twilight Zone” remake, and “Brave New World.”
Historical Context of Aegon’s Conquest in Westeros
The story focuses on Aegon I Targaryen, along with his sister-wives Visenya and Rhaenys, who conquered most of the Seven Kingdoms roughly 300 years before the events of the original “Game of Thrones” television series. Utilizing their dragons—Balerion, Vhagar, and Meraxes—the trio established the Targaryen dynasty, with King Aegon I becoming the first monarch to rule from the Iron Throne.
