According to the prefecture of the Nord department, law enforcement officers made 47 total interventions by Wednesday evening, rising from 25 midday detentions. Lille Public Prosecutor Samuel Finielz confirmed that 36 of those individuals were placed in formal police custody. Thirty of the detained suspects are minors, while six are adults. Eleven of these custodies will result in direct courtroom referrals.
Arson Investigation Opened at Wattrelos School
Separately, a vehicle was burned outside the Lycée Emile Zola in Wattrelos on Wednesday morning, forcing the unblockaded institution to close for the day. Prosecutor Samuel Finielz announced that an active flagrante delicto investigation has been opened for arson-related property destruction, a crime carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Investigators are working to determine whether the vehicle was pushed against the facility’s security gate or driven to the site and set on fire deliberately. Authorities have not yet identified or apprehended the suspects responsible for the incident.

Ongoing Demonstrations and Police Response
Demonstrators gathered outside the Lille Sud police station late Wednesday evening to demand the immediate release of the students held in custody. Additional student blockages are scheduled for Thursday, October 1. Law enforcement deployed tear gas around the Porte des Postes intersection as sporadic unrest continued into the evening hours.
