LSU Gymnast Leah Miller Retires From Gymnastics Due to Injury

LSU gymnast Leah Miller announced on Wednesday that she is stepping away from competitive gymnastics following a serious knee injury sustained last season. Miller, from Raleigh, North Carolina, shared the decision on social media, concluding her competitive career with the Tigers while confirming she will remain with the program in a non-competitive role.

Transition from Competitive Career to Support Role

Miller arrived at LSU as a freshman in 2024 after training at Arizona Dynamics Gymnastics under Gina Martin, where she specialized in beam and floor events. During her freshman season, she did not compete while earning WCGA Academic All-American and SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll accolades. She made her competitive debut as a sophomore on February 28, 2025, at the Podium Challenge, appearing on vault and floor to record career highs of 9.775 and 9.875, respectively. That same year, she earned SEC Academic Honor Roll and Scholastic All-America honors.

A serious knee injury sustained last season derailed her progress, leaving her on crutches at the opening of the 2026 season, during which she did not compete. Despite the injury ending her time on the competition floor, Miller stated that her connection to the university remains intact. “While my role in the gym may look a little different now, this is not goodbye,” Miller wrote in an Instagram post. “I’ll still be around every day, cheering on my teammates and supporting the program that has given me so much.”

Academic and Gymnastics Honors at LSU

Throughout her tenure in Baton Rouge, Miller balanced athletic endeavors with academic recognition. She secured a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll in both 2025 and 2026, alongside WCGA Academic All-American honors in 2024 and 2025. Prior to her collegiate career, she finished first on floor at the 2023 Arizona Sunrays Classic Rock Invitational, where she also placed third on vault and ninth on beam, following a runner-up floor finish at the 2022 Arizona State Championships.
