Dobbins Career and Technical Education High School officials increased campus security measures on Thursday following a fight among students that occurred off-campus the previous afternoon.
Surveillance Footage Captures Wednesday Brawl Near Lehigh Avenue
The incident took place Wednesday after school near 22nd Street and West Lehigh Avenue. According to surveillance footage, a group of students followed two girls who were fighting, running across the intersection as the altercation unfolded.
Police arrived at the scene primarily to manage the crowd. While one individual was detained by authorities, no charges were filed in connection with the event.
Principal Thompson Deploys Safe Path Personnel for Perimeter Monitoring
To maintain order, the school has implemented a heightened security posture. Principal Shervon Thompson confirmed the school’s commitment to safety in a statement, noting that the protection of students and staff remains the highest priority.
The school currently utilizes a team of six school safety officers and four staff members dedicated to the district’s “Safe Path” program. The initiative provides trained personnel to monitor school perimeters during transition times.
Student Body Reacts to Viral Video and Campus Reputation
The circulation of the fight video has drawn significant attention from the student body and the local community.
Syncere Bellinger, an 11th-grade student, noted that the incident has negatively affected the school’s reputation. Other students, including 12th-grader Daisy Marie, witnessed the aftermath but avoided direct involvement in the conflict.
Alumna Defends Dobbins While District Maintains Presence
Lori Martin, a Dobbins alumna who volunteers at the school, expressed concern regarding the incident but emphasized that the actions of a few do not represent the entire student body.
As of Thursday, no charges had been filed by police. While one person was detained at the scene on Wednesday for crowd control purposes, the school and district have focused their response on internal safety protocols and increased personnel presence.
