A. Lange & Söhne Celebrates Birthday Weekend in New York City
In a recent column for Hodinkee, a watch enthusiast detailed a visit to New York City for A. Lange & Söhne’s anniversary celebration, highlighting a retrospective exhibition at the Academy Mansion and the release of a new Datograph Perpetual. The brand marked its milestone weekend just steps from Central Park and its Manhattan flagship, bringing together antique pocket watches and complex modern complications for public display.
Retrospective Exhibition at the Academy Mansion
The brand hosted its anniversary exhibition inside the William Ziegler Mansion, better known as the Academy Mansion. The historical display featured rare timepieces ranging from pre-World War II antique pocket watches produced before the company was subsumed by the German state to technical modern offerings. Organizers sourced authentic Soviet-era stacking chairs from Poland to complete the vintage photo opportunities at the venue.
New Datograph Perpetual Debut
Lange & Söhne unveiled a new Datograph Perpetual for 2026. The release joins a lineage that includes the original Datograph caliber, which watchmaker Philippe Dufour famously called the best chronograph movement ever made. Visitors to the New York event also examined other technical highlights, including the 1815 Rattrapante, the Odysseus chronograph, and the Zeitwerk Striking Time.
Live Craftsmanship and Watchmaker Demonstrations
An artisan engraver demonstrated the intricate hand-engraving process of a balance cock live for attendees at the mansion. In addition to the live demonstration, company watchmakers were stationed on site to answer technical questions and discuss the manufacturing processes behind the brand’s mechanical movements.
