Major Delays on A4 Towards Amsterdam Following Accident
ROELOFARENDSVEEN, Netherlands – Commuters traveling on the A4 highway towards Amsterdam faced significant delays Tuesday morning following a serious accident between Leiden/Zoeterwoude-Dorp and Roelofarendsveen. The road was closed, causing substantial traffic congestion.
Accident Details and Road Closure
The A4 was initially closed around 7:00 AM due to the accident, according to Omroep West. Multiple emergency services, including ambulances, a trauma helicopter, and two fire trucks, were dispatched to the scene.
Initial reports indicated a collision involving two vehicles, with at least one person reported as being trapped. Hart van Nederland reported this detail.
Traffic Impact and Diversions
Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch road authority, initially estimated delays of up to 90 minutes. Rijkswaterstaat Verkeersinformatie on X advised drivers to expect 60 minutes of delay and suggested using the vluchtstrook (emergency lane) where possible.
Motorists were diverted via the N44 (Corbulotunnel) and A44. Traffic already behind the accident was guided along the vluchtstrook.
Road Reopened
The A4 reopened to traffic at approximately 9:00 AM, according to Omroep West. The extent of any injuries sustained in the accident remains unknown.
