Actor Jung Woo-sung has started shooting the new historical action film “Salsaengbu,” in which he plays Han Myeong-hoe, production companies Yeonghwa-sa Chaeum and Yeonghwa-sa Take announced Nov. 5, Yonhap News reported.
The film also stars Jung Sung-il and Baek Yun-sik, with filming now underway.
‘Salsaengbu’ Traces Power and Revenge Around the Gyeyujeongnan Coup
The story follows Han Myeong-hoe, who seized power, and the people who lost everything to him and turn to revenge. It is set against Crown Prince Suyang’s (King Sejo’s) coup, known as the Gyeyujeongnan, and the movement that followed to restore the deposed King Danjong.
The film is based on the webtoon of the same name by writer Kim Jong-hoon, who applied his imagination to those events.
It is billed as a “hard-boiled bloody action sageuk” — a historical drama that shows the raw face of power and a fierce confrontation through intense, unrelenting action.
Jung Woo-sung, Jung Sung-il and Baek Yun-sik Take Lead Roles
Jung Woo-sung plays Han Myeong-hoe, a character armed with cold strategy and overwhelming martial skill who spares no sacrifice in pursuit of power. The role is described as ruthless and charismatic.
Jung Sung-il plays Ban Seok, a man nursing a deep grudge against Han Myeong-hoe and preparing his revenge. Baek Yun-sik plays Daejangjang Ji-hak, once Joseon’s greatest warrior.
Wi Ha-joon appears as Crown Prince Suyang. The cast also includes Choi Gwi-hwa, Park Ji-hwan, Choi Moo-sung, Go Chang-seok, Jo Bok-rae, Choi Daniel, Hyun Bong-sik and Lee Sung-wook.
Kim Hong-seon Directs With ‘The Wolf Hunting’ Team and International Crew
Director Kim Hong-seon, who helmed “The Wolf Hunting” (2022) and “The Con Artists” (2012), takes the megaphone.
The production also brings in international staff: cinematographer Rars Cox, who shot HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” and lighting director Kieran Waite, who worked on the film “Odyssey.”
