Adobe Supercharges Photoshop and Firefly with Conversational AI

Adobe has unveiled significant advancements in its creative suite, integrating conversational AI into Photoshop and Firefly. These updates aim to streamline image editing workflows and empower creators of all skill levels with intuitive, chat-based controls.

Photoshop Gains AI Assistant in Public Beta

The centerpiece of the update is the public beta release of the AI Assistant for Photoshop, available on both web and mobile platforms. This feature introduces a chat interface that allows users to edit images using natural language prompts. Users can request tasks such as removing distractions, changing backgrounds, refining lighting, or adjusting colors, with the AI either applying the changes automatically or providing step-by-step guidance Adobe.

Mobile users can now leverage voice commands to request edits hands-free. A new feature called AI Markup, also in beta for the web version, allows users to draw directly on images and add prompts to specify areas for modification. For example, users can mark a section of the sky and request the addition of mountains, with Photoshop generating results within seconds Adobe.

Firefly Image Editor Receives a Unified Workspace

Adobe has also revamped the Firefly Image Editor, consolidating generative editing tools into a single workspace. This unified interface encompasses Generative Fill, Generative Remove, Generative Expand, Generative Upscale and Remove Background, applicable to both AI-generated and uploaded images Redshark News.

Firefly now supports over 25 different AI models, including Adobe’s own commercially trained models, as well as third-party options like Google’s Nano Banana 2, OpenAI’s Image Generation, Runway’s Gen-4.5, and Black Forest Labs’ Flux.2 Redshark News.

Usage and Availability

Paid Photoshop subscribers will have access to unlimited AI generations through April 9th. Free users will receive 20 free generations to start TechCrunch. Firefly customers currently receive unlimited generations TechCrunch.

The AI Assistant for Photoshop is available in public beta on the web and mobile, even as the updated Firefly image editing features are available globally within the Firefly Image Editor Adobe.

Expanding the Adobe Conversational AI Ecosystem

These updates build upon Adobe’s broader strategy of integrating conversational AI across its creative tools, including Acrobat and Adobe Express, and extending to third-party platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft 365 Copilot Adobe.
