Quraish Shihab Offers Prayer for President Prabowo at Nuzulul Quran Event
Jakarta – Prominent Indonesian religious figure and Quranic exegete, Professor Muhammad Quraish Shihab, offered a special prayer for President Prabowo Subianto during the state-level Nuzulul Quran commemoration held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the State Palace in Jakarta.
Inspired by a Previous Prayer for an Egyptian President
Quraish Shihab shared that the prayer was inspired by a similar supplication offered by his teacher, Sheikh Muhammad Mutawalli Asy-Syarawi, to the President of Egypt. He explained that the prayer centered on the understanding that all power ultimately originates from God.
“I want to pray. First, for Mr. President. Sir, I have a teacher, sir. His name is Sheikh Mutawalli Asy-Syarawi. He once prayed to the President of Egypt. His prayer begins with the sentence: ‘Power comes from God,’” Quraish Shihab stated, as reported by Antara News.
A Prayer for Guidance and Success
Quraish Shihab’s prayer specifically asked for divine assistance for President Prabowo in his efforts to improve the welfare of the Indonesian people, uphold justice, and maintain peace. He conveyed that if President Prabowo’s leadership was destined by God to benefit the nation, he prayed for support in achieving those goals.
“He just said—and this is what I want to pray for you—he said: ‘I don’t know, maybe we won’t meet again. I can only pray, if Your Majesty is our destiny, the people—in the sense that God destined Your Majesty to do activities that make the people prosperous—then we pray that we can help you,'” Quraish said, according to DetikNews.
He further added, “But, sir, if Your Majesty said, it is your Majesty’s destiny to hold this position to help uphold justice and peace, then we will pray that Your Majesty will be helped by God and we will help. That is our prayer to you.”
Concluding Prayer and Presidential Appreciation
Following his address, Quraish Shihab led the attendees in a short prayer, rooted in Islamic tradition: “Allahumma Antas Salam, wa minkas salam, wa ilaika ya’uddus salam, ahyina Rabbana bis salam, wa adkhinal jannata daraka daras salam” (O Allah, You are the Most Peaceful. From You comes peace. Peace returns to you. Oh God, make us live in peace and enter us in your paradise, a paradise full of peace. O Lord of glory and majesty).
President Prabowo Subianto expressed his appreciation for Quraish Shihab’s insightful remarks during the Nuzulul Quran event, highlighting the importance of peace, justice, and recognizing differences without division, as noted by iNews.id. He emphasized that leadership is a significant trust bestowed by God.
