Naples City Workers Overwhelmingly Vote to Recertify union

Naples,FL – January 12,2026 – Public service employees of teh City of Naples have demonstrated strong support for their union,AFSCME Local 2017,with over 99% voting to recertify their collective bargaining rights following a two-day voting period.

The decisive vote reaffirms the commitment of Naples city workers to a strong, independent voice in advocating for their rights and interests.The recertification process comes after a period where efforts were made to limit the influence of the union, according to union officials.

James Spears, Jr., administrator for AFSCME Florida, celebrated the outcome in a released statement. “When working families and union members stand up and speak out, we win,” Spears said. “This victory in Naples demonstrates that across the state and nation, collective action is effective.
