AIA Life Insurance Secures Exclusive License for Advanced Cancer Treatments
AIA Life Insurance, led by CEO Chop Nathan Michael, has announced it has obtained an exclusive nine-month license from the Life Insurance Association for a “non-dividend specific modern medical treatment (benefit) special contract (renewable type).” This license grants AIA exclusive usage rights for innovative cancer treatment options, marking a significant step in expanding access to cutting-edge medical technologies.
Innovation Recognized by the Life Insurance Association
The Life Insurance Association awards exclusive usage rights based on criteria including product development, originality, usefulness and progressive thinking. AIA Life Insurance’s special contract focuses on improving consumer accessibility to four types of the latest new medical technologies within a single contract. Specifically, the company received exclusive rights for percutaneous radiofrequency heat therapy, percutaneous microwave heat therapy, and intraperitoneal hyperthermia chemotherapy.
Expanding Treatment Options Beyond Traditional Methods
This new contract extends the scope of treatment coverage beyond traditional methods like surgery, drugs, and radiation therapy. It provides practical alternatives for patients who may be ineligible for surgery or face a high risk of metastasis or recurrence. AIA Life Insurance emphasized its commitment to alleviating the financial burden associated with these high-cost treatments by basing coverage amounts on actual patient out-of-pocket expenses.
Addressing the Need for Advanced Cancer Care
The development of this special contract is aimed at helping patients select the most appropriate treatment method, particularly in the context of high medical expenses. Stomach, liver, and lung cancers, which collectively account for 34% of all cancer cases, often require new medical technologies to complement existing treatments due to their high mortality rates. Access to these technologies has historically been limited by cost.
A Focus on Customer Needs
AIA Life Insurance’s approach centers on understanding and responding to customer needs throughout the product design process. Shin-ok Yoo, Customer General Manager of AIA Life Insurance, stated that the company prioritizes customers in its decision-making to achieve a “healthier, longer, better life.” The special contract reflects customer treatment journeys and diverse feedback, aiming to provide practical assistance in expanding treatment options and reducing financial strain.
