Alaska Airlines Launches First Nonstop Flights to Rome, Expanding European Presence

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) now has a direct connection to Rome, Italy, with Alaska Airlines initiating daily nonstop service to Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport (FCO) on April 28, 2026. This marks Alaska Airlines’ first foray into the European market and strengthens Seattle’s position as a key international gateway.

The seasonal service, operating through October 23, 2026, offers travelers a convenient route between the Pacific Northwest and Europe. Alaska Airlines Flight 180 departed Seattle at 5:30 p.m. Local time on April 28, arriving in Rome at 1:15 p.m. Local time on April 29. Westbound flights depart Rome at 3:25 p.m. And arrive in Seattle at 5:45 p.m.

Expanding Global Reach and Passenger Experience

According to Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Air Group, the launch of flights to Rome is a “significant step in executing our long-term growth strategy.” He emphasized that the new service not only connects passengers to more destinations but also reinforces Seattle’s role as a global hub. “Service to Rome expands how we connect our guests to the world, strengthens Seattle’s role as a global gateway and is made possible by our people who deliver safety, care and performance with every flight. Andiamo!” Minicucci stated.

The airline is also debuting its international business class Suites experience on the route, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the onboard experience as it expands its international network. Alaska Airlines highlighted this as part of its broader expansion across Asia and Europe.

Cargo Operations and Connectivity

The new route also expands Alaska Airlines’ cargo capabilities. The airline has become the first U.S. Passenger carrier to offer daily nonstop cargo service between Seattle and Rome, bringing its cargo network to 109 destinations worldwide. AeroTime reported on this expansion of cargo operations.

Alaska Airlines also noted that the Rome service provides a one-stop connection between Hawaii and Europe through Seattle.
