Manhunt Underway in Ålesund Following Prison Escape

A large-scale search is underway in Ålesund, Norway, after an inmate escaped from police custody on Monday, March 9, 2026. Authorities are urging the public not to approach the individual if spotted, but to immediately contact the police.

Details of the Escapee

The escapee is described as approximately 190 cm (6’3”) tall, with a slim build, light skin, and dark, curly hair. He was last seen wearing a red sweater, red trousers, and either blue or purple shoes.

Police Response and Public Safety

Police have been deployed to multiple locations in central Ålesund and the Aspøy area in an effort to locate the escaped inmate. The operation has been designated as dangerous, and officers are carrying firearms.

Operasjonsleder Sindre Molnes of the Norwegian police stated, “Do not approach the individual if observed, but contact the police immediately.” The contact number for reporting sightings is 02800, requesting to speak with the operations center.
