Canadiens Secure Alexandre Texier with Two-Year Contract Extension
Montreal, QC – January 14, 2026 – The Montreal Canadiens have announced a significant move in securing their forward depth, agreeing to a two-year contract extension with Alexandre Texier. The deal, announced Wednesday by general Manager Kent Hughes, carries an average annual value (AAV) of $2.5 million, extending Texier’s tenure with the club through the 2027-28 season.
Texier has quickly become a valuable asset for the Canadiens since joining the team as a free agent on November 23rd. In 25 games played this season, the French forward has demonstrated offensive capabilities, registering seven goals and nine assists. Prior to his arrival in Montreal, Texier spent eight games with the St. Louis Blues, contributing one assist.A highlight of his season came on January 8th,when he recorded his first career NHL hat trick against the Florida Panthers at the Bell Center.
Throughout his NHL career, spanning from his debut in the 2018-19 season, Texier has consistently contributed offensively. The 6-foot-1, 196-pound forward has amassed 107 points (47 goals and 60 assists) in 265 career games.He also brings a physical presence, accumulating 102 penalty minutes.
beyond his NHL experience, Texier has proven himself on the international stage. He has participated in 21 playoff games with the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Blues, recording two goals and six assists. Representing France in five IIHF World Championships, he has tallied 15 points (4 goals and 11 assists) in 32 games. Texier is also poised to represent his country at the upcoming 2026 olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina.
Originally drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round (45th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft, Texier’s continued progress and versatility make him a key component of the Canadiens’ future plans.
