Algoma University Celebrates Curling Olympian Brad Jacobs Ahead of 2026 Games
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON – February 4, 2024 – Algoma University recently hosted a gathering to wish Brad Jacobs, a 2007 Bachelor of Arts in Geography alumnus and Olympic curling champion, success as he prepares for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. The event brought together Varsity Academic All-Canadians from the menS and women’s curling teams, fellow student-athletes, and campus leaders to recognize Jacobs’ journey from Algoma University to the international stage.
“Algoma University played a defining role in shaping me, both as an athlete and as a person,” Jacobs shared. “My time at Algoma U helped instill the discipline, teamwork, and mindset that continue to guide me today as I approach my second Winter Olympics. Seeing the next generation of scholar-athletes thrive means a great deal to me, especially under the steady leadership of Algoma University coach Tom Coulterman. I’m deeply grateful for the University’s support and excited as we look ahead to the 2026 Winter Olympics.”
Tom Coulterman, Algoma University Varsity Curling Head Coach and Jacobs’ former coach, expressed his pride. “It has been an honor to coach Brad and watch his growth over the years,” Coulterman said. “Our varsity Academic All-canadians were proud to be part of this, and to wish him well. the entire Thunderbirds program is behind him. I am excited to see what comes next in his journey, and we will be cheering him on all the way.”
Jacobs previously won an Olympic gold medal at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. He and his team are currently competing to represent canada at the 2026 Games.
