Amaran Halo Series: Accessible Bi-Color COB Lighting for Creators

Amaran has launched the Halo Series, a latest line of studio-focused bi-color COB (Chip-on-Board) lights designed to deliver consistent lighting performance for a wide range of creators. The series includes five models – Halo 60x, Halo 100x, Halo 200x, Halo 300x, and Halo 600x – offering power outputs from 63 to 610 watts.

Designed for Versatility and Ease of Use

The Halo Series aims to provide high-output lighting in compact housings while maintaining a straightforward user experience for creators working in home studios, livestreaming setups, and professional production environments. Positioned as a more accessible bi-color option within Amaran’s lighting ecosystem, the Halo series complements the Ray series, which focuses on full-color RGB lighting. The Halo models are designed for everyday studio use, offering a simpler operation than previous Amaran COB S lights.

Compact Design and Intuitive Controls

Across the range, the Halo fixtures feature a compact form factor to minimize clutter in studio spaces. The Halo 60x and 100x share the same footprint, making them suitable for smaller setups like desktop studios. The larger Halo 200x, 300x, and 600x maintain similar length and width dimensions, increasing in depth with higher power output.

Control is simplified with dedicated knobs for brightness and color temperature, allowing for direct adjustments without navigating menus. A built-in display provides status information, and wireless control is available through the Amaran mobile app. The lights also incorporate NFC functionality for quick pairing with the app by tapping a smartphone to the unit.

Connectivity and Integration

The Halo Series introduces DMX control via USB-C on every model. Using an optional USB-C to five-pin DMX adapter, the fixtures can be integrated into wired lighting control systems commonly used in professional production environments. This allows for consistent control across multiple fixtures within existing workflows.

Output, Color Performance, and Power Options

The Halo Series offers a range of output levels. The Halo 60x produces up to 3,270 lux at a distance of 1 meter, while the Halo 600x can reach up to 32,500 lux at the same distance. All models support a color temperature range of 2,700 to 6,500 Kelvin, allowing users to switch between warm and cool tones.

Amaran states the fixtures are designed for accurate color reproduction, with a CRI of 96 and a TLCI of 97, along with TM 30 ratings to ensure consistent color quality and natural skin tones. The lights have a native beam angle of approximately 85 degrees and include built-in lighting effects for creative applications.

Power options vary by model. The Halo 60x and 100x support USB-C Power Delivery, allowing them to run from compatible USB-C power sources, including external battery systems. The Halo 200x, 300x, and 600x incorporate their power supplies and operate using a single AC cable.

Bowens Mount Compatibility and Cooling

All models include a full-size Bowens mount, compatible with a wide range of lighting modifiers like softboxes, reflectors, and Fresnel attachments. The fixtures also feature active cooling systems designed to maintain stable operating temperatures while remaining quiet enough for video recording.
