JA21 Leader Kevin Kreuger Assaulted in Amsterdam

Kevin Kreuger, the leader of the JA21 faction in Amsterdam, was assaulted on Osdorpplein in Amsterdam Nieuw-West on Monday, March 16, 2026. The incident occurred shortly after Kreuger participated in an election debate hosted by AT5 .

Details of the Assault

According to Kreuger, he intervened when a group of four young men threw an ice cream at a woman. After he spoke out against their behavior, the group turned on him and physically attacked him . Kreuger reported the assault to the police .

Reactions to the Incident

JA21 expressed relief that the assault was not more severe, stating, “Under the circumstances, we are relieved that it didn’t finish much worse, because it easily could have” . Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema called the assault “horrific” and stated that the police are investigating . Police confirmed they received a report about the incident .

Kreuger’s Political Status

Kreuger did not stand for re-election in the recent municipal elections and was attending the AT5 debate as a spectator . His departure from seeking re-election followed the announcement of a new candidate, a 24-year-old entrepreneur, to replace him as a faction leader . Cas van Berkel also departed alongside Kreuger .
