Angel Studios Implements Content Policy Banning Sex, Nudity, and Profanity

Announced in a Fox News interview Thursday by co-founder and chief content officer Jeff Harmon, “The Angel Promise” also grants its 3 million paying members a veto right to vote on incoming movies and television shows, as reported by Variety. Harmon told Fox that This is the first time in history that a major Hollywood studio, or top 10 studio in the United States, has come and said, we’re going to let the audience have a veto right, and described the initiative by stating, This is a completely unique one.

The Three Commitments of The Angel Promise

The newly established content initiative rests on three core commitments: strict standards for sex and language, audience approval mechanisms, and expanded parental controls. Under the guidelines, original films and series produced by the studio will not feature nudity, sex acts, or the misuse of God’s name. Additionally, the studio bans the F-word entirely across its projects and prohibits profanity in titles submitted for children aged 12 and under.

Harmon stated in the interview that Hollywood has drifted away from the values-based audience it once served. By establishing these rules, the studio aims to give families of faith a dependable viewing environment that outlasts individual filmmakers or executives. We promise there’s never going to be nudity, and there’ll never be sex on screen, Harmon said in the video, explaining that Angel is a faith-friendly studio. The pledge on the Angel Studios website reads, No sex acts on screen — ever and No F words.

Angel Guild Member Voting and Veto Power

To clear the studio’s distribution threshold, incoming films and television series must secure a score of at least 70 out of 100 from the Angel Guild. Harmon noted that this gives the audience a direct veto right over content entering the platform. Current and upcoming projects on the studio’s slate include “Runner,” “Young Washington,” “David,” “Drummer Boy,” “Angel and the Badman,” “The King of Kings,” and “Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ.”
