Angèle Returns with Vulnerable Piano Ballads on New Album Instinct

Belgian artist Angèle returns with her third album, Instinct, showcasing a musical restyling that blends electronic production with acoustic and piano moments. The release marks a significant evolution for the Brussels singer, moving away from her early days as the neighbor making bedroom pop to embrace the persona of a young woman willing to play the diva.

Musical Restyling and Vulnerable Piano Ballads

While singles such as “Dis-le” and “What You Want” flash through the sound system with an electronic and sometimes overwhelming edge that requires some getting used to, the core of her songwriting remains intact. Amidst the party bustle, the release features small piano songs that nod to her debut album roll, expressed best in her native French language. Among them is the dreamy, soft intermezzo “Je sais”, an ode to her father, Serge Van Laeken, who is known in Francophone Belgium as Marka. In the vulnerable track, she explores the universal theme of how an adult can lovingly communicate with parents despite miscommunications and lingering unsaid words, proudly singing, I have a lot from Mom, but also a lot from you..

Personal Growth and Live Dates Ahead

The journey toward the new record was shaped by a broken heart, renewal, and a new love, with the importance of intuition serving as a continuous thread. The mantra Listen to your instincts emerges on the single “Dis-le”, capturing how the artist has transformed since her previous album. The tracklist also features the dreamy piano number “On verra” and the unexpected electronic turn of “Je compte” as a new flame enters the narrative. Fans will have the opportunity to experience the new era live when Angèle presents Instinct during two sold-out shows at the ING Arena on March 20 and 21.
