Anthony Joshua’s Sparring Partner Dies After Training Session
Anthony Joshua’s camp is reeling after the sudden death of one of his sparring partners, Latif “Latz” Ayodele, following a training session. A second sparring partner remains in critical condition in hospital.
The tragic news emerged on Tuesday, with reports indicating the incident occurred after a routine sparring session in readiness for Joshua’s upcoming fight against Francis Ngannou on March 8th. While details remain scarce, it’s understood medical personnel were promptly on hand to provide assistance.
A statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) by a close associate of Joshua confirmed the passing of Ayodele and the hospitalization of the other sparring partner. The post read: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele after a sparring session. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Another sparring partner is currently in hospital and receiving medical attention.We wish him a full and speedy recovery.”
The post also expressed gratitude for the team of doctors and medical staff at the Lagoon Hospital Ikoyi that attended to Joshua and those that sustained injuries.It read: “The quality of care and professionalism is truly commendable.”
