National PAC Donates Five Thousand Dollars to Mike Rogers Campaign Ahead of Early Voting
Federal Election Commission filings show that the National Pro-Life Alliance political action committee donated $5,000 to the Rogers for Senate campaign on October 23. The contribution arrived just as Michigan residents began casting early ballots ahead of the November 3 midterms. The National Pro-Life Alliance has previously lobbied for the passage of the Life at Conception Act, legislation that aims to ban all abortions without exceptions for rape, incest, or health risks for the pregnant patient.

The recent donation highlights ongoing tensions surrounding reproductive rights in Michigan. In 2022, Michigan voters chose by a 13-point margin to codify the right to abortion care into the state constitution. Two years ago, Republican US Senate candidate and former Rep. Mike Rogers claimed that he had no interest in “going back to Washington, DC to undo what the people of Michigan decided to do.” However, reproductive rights advocates argue that his legislative record tells a different story.
Legislative History and Fetal Personhood Sponsorships
During his 14 years in office, Rogers sponsored four fetal “personhood” bills that aimed to ban nearly all abortions nationwide. He also backed a national 20-week abortion ban. In a candidate questionnaire distributed by the Michigan Catholic Conference, Rogers wrote that he opposed abortion at any time except to save the life of the mother and confirmed his support for the Human Life Amendment.
The National Pro-Life Alliance has a history of financial support for Rogers, having previously donated $1,700 between 2000-10. When the group contributed $1,000 in 2010, it stipulated that supported candidates must back the Life at Conception Act. Shanay Watson-Whittaker, director of Michigan campaigns at Reproductive Freedom for All, stated that the latest contribution demonstrates how anti-abortion groups rely on Rogers to advance their agenda.
Voter Response and Upcoming Ballot Decisions
Voters in Missouri, Idaho, Virginia, and Nevada will decide the fate of abortion rights in their states. Watson-Whittaker urged Michigan voters to weigh Rogers’ campaign contributions and historical voting record as they head to the polls. She noted that while voters fought to protect reproductive freedom, extremist organizations are backing candidates who can undermine those protections at the federal level.
