Anya Taylor-Joy Experienced a Physical Reaction to Voicing Princess Peach
Anya Taylor-Joy, the voice of Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the upcoming The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, recently revealed a surprising side effect of her role: she vomited the first time she recorded lines for the character. The actress shared the story during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on March 19, 2026.
The Demands of Voicing a Princess
Taylor-Joy explained that the intensity of the voice acting process was more physically demanding than she anticipated. “It’s super fun,” she told Meyers, “But I will say the first time I ever did a session, I did not realize how taxing it would be because you’re yelling continuously the whole time.”
The actress described how she pushed herself during the initial recording session, consuming a large amount of water in preparation. “I consider the first time I ever did it, I threw up. I’m pretty sure, like, I drank so much water and I was like, ‘Gotta do it.’”
“Effort” Required for Every Line
Taylor-Joy further detailed the physical “efforts” required at the finish of each line, involving acting out Peach’s actions – yells, grunts, and gasps – as she recorded. She acknowledged that these recordings exist, adding, “You kind of visit yourself back and you think, ‘God, I hope no one ever sees this,’ because they do film them.”
The revelation highlights the dedication and physical commitment required for even voice acting roles, particularly those demanding a wide range of vocal expression. Taylor-Joy’s experience underscores that bringing beloved characters to life can be surprisingly strenuous.
