Apple Cuts Over 200 Jobs in Siri and Vision Pro Teams for AI Shift

Apple is eliminating more than 200 jobs across its Siri and Vision Pro divisions as the technology giant realigns its internal resources to prioritize generative artificial intelligence and upcoming smart glasses development, according to reporting by Bloomberg. The workforce reduction impacts approximately 100 positions within the Vision Pro mixed-reality headset team, while another 100 roles are cut from Siri development and software engineering groups.

Vision Pro Team Restructuring and Hardware Shifts

The hardware cuts heavily target the division responsible for the Vision Pro, which launched in February 2024 at a starting price of $3,699, according to Bloomberg. Apple is largely dismantling a specialized unit focused on creating gaming experiences for the headset, alongside downsizing a team tasked with producing immersive video content. Despite these reductions, Apple informed employees that the Vision Pro and its visionOS operating system remain active projects, with a potential new hardware model still under internal consideration for late 2028 release, Bloomberg reported.

Near-term hardware priorities have shifted toward the development of lightweight smart glasses that will omit advanced gaming and immersive video capabilities, according to Bloomberg.

Siri Architecture and Intelligent Systems Reorganization

The job reductions directly impact the Intelligent Systems Experience group, a software division tasked with integrating artificial intelligence features across Apple devices, according to Bloomberg. The cuts within the Siri division stem from a transition toward a forthcoming AI-powered version of the digital assistant built on new technical architecture. This technical overhaul requires different engineering expertise, prompting the company to eliminate legacy roles while simultaneously opening new positions to support the updated platform.
