Al Ain City Municipality manages a year-round floral landscaping framework that produces over 5.5 million seedlings annually, resulting in approximately 99 million blooms planted across flowerbeds spanning nearly 400,000 square metres, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office subsidiary WAM. The initiative integrates climate-resilient ornamental plants into the urban environment through structured geometric designs, automated irrigation, and seasonal planting cycles.

Cultivation Framework and Plant Selection

According to WAM reporting, the municipality utilizes 30 distinct species spanning 40 varieties and 20 precise color shades to maintain continuous floral coverage across main avenues, roundabouts, central medians, public parks, government facilities, plazas, and pedestrian walkways. Designers map out white, red, yellow, orange, pink, violet, and blue shades in structured patterns to preserve visual harmony across diverse sites.

Plant selections prioritize climate-resilient varieties evaluated on technical criteria, including heat tolerance, bloom duration, color density, and water efficiency. The municipal program regularly grows dahlia, zinnia, sunflower, chrysanthemum, portulaca, cosmos, viola, vinca, petunia, amaranthus, lantana, marigold, begonia, stock, hollyhock, salvia, delphinium, gerbera, aster, celosia, geranium, and freesia.

Operational Schedules and Maintenance

Planting schedules align closely with regional seasonal cycles, as reported by WAM. Mid-May marks the launch of summer cultivation utilizing high-heat tolerant species, whereas winter planting commences in late December to bring in the widest possible selection of species and colors for continuous year-round blooms.

Operational cycles begin with clearing previous seasonal growth, soil conditioning, and organic fertilization prior to transplanting nursery-grown seedlings. Maintenance involves automated precision irrigation, scheduled fertilization, and periodic routine replacement to preserve bed quality. To keep its floral offerings fresh, the municipality regularly adds new plant selections each season, refreshes landscape layouts, broadens the use of automated watering systems, and blends horizontal displays with vertical designs and built-in decorative elements.
