Apple Music’s AI Playlist Playground Transforms Music Discovery in iOS 26.4

Apple is poised to revolutionize playlist creation with the introduction of Playlist Playground, a new feature powered by Apple Intelligence, arriving in iOS 26.4. This innovative tool allows users to generate personalized playlists simply by entering text prompts, ushering in a new era of AI-driven music discovery within the Apple Music ecosystem.

How Playlist Playground Works

Playlist Playground, currently available in the iOS 26.4 beta, enables users to create playlists based on ideas, moods, or feelings. Accessible through the “+” button when creating a new playlist in the Apple Music Library [MacRumors], the feature offers both pre-set suggestions – such as “morning coffee music,” “hip-hop party songs,” and “disco songs that defined the 1970s” – and the freedom to input custom prompts [9to5Mac].

Upon entering a prompt, Playlist Playground automatically generates a list of 25 songs, complete with a custom playlist title [AppleMagazine]. Users can further refine these AI-generated playlists with additional text prompts, allowing for iterative customization. Playlists can also be personalized with custom cover art and descriptions.

Beyond Generation: Customization and Sharing

The feature doesn’t stop at initial generation. Users can manually add or remove songs, reorder tracks, and continue to refine the playlist to their exact preferences [9to5Mac]. Generated playlists can be saved to a user’s Apple Music library, shared with others, and displayed on their profile, mirroring the functionality of traditionally created playlists [MacRumors].

Accessing Playlist Playground

Currently, Playlist Playground is exclusive to the iOS 26.4 beta. To access it, users must open the Apple Music app, navigate to the Library tab, and tap the “+” button to create a new playlist [MacRumors]. If the feature isn’t immediately visible, restarting the device or the Apple Music app may be necessary [MacRumors].

Broader iOS 26.4 Updates

Alongside Playlist Playground, iOS 26.4 introduces other enhancements to the Apple Music experience. These include a redesigned albums and playlists view with full-page artwork, extending the themed background to the track list and suggestions, and updated button layouts for improved one-handed usability [9to5Mac]. Artist pages may also feature an “Upcoming Concerts” badge, providing information on upcoming live performances.

Availability

iOS 26.4 is currently in beta for developers, with a public beta expected in the coming weeks. The full software release is anticipated in the spring [MacRumors].
