Apple has released urgent macOS security updates addressing a critical vulnerability in the Screen Sharing feature that could allow unauthorized remote access on local networks.
Critical Screen Sharing Flaw Details
The security flaw, tracked as CVE-2026-65400, stems from an authentication session management defect within the Screen Sharing utility. According to researcher Alfredo Pesoli via the Bynario Atlas platform, the vulnerability allows an attacker positioned on the same local network—such as a public Wi-Fi hotspot or a shared office space—to bypass standard verification checks and connect to a target Mac without providing valid credentials.
Depending on the privileges assigned to the session, successful exploitation grants unauthorized users the ability to view the screen, open files and applications, and execute more intrusive actions on the host machine. Apple confirmed in its advisory that it has observed no active exploits of CVE-2026-65400 in the wild.
Affected Versions and Build Numbers
The emergency updates cover the active Mac ecosystem across multiple operating system generations. According to Apple, users should immediately apply the patches via System Settings under General and Software Update.
