Arizona Gymnastics Defeats Arizona State, Securing Territorial Cup Point
TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Gymnastics team concluded its final conference meet of the season with a decisive victory over Arizona State on Friday, March 6, posting a team score of 196.400 at McKale Center at ALKEME Arena. The GymCats secured a crucial Territorial Cup point with their performance.
Wildcats Dominate Individual Events
Arizona showcased its talent by winning four individual event titles. Sophie Derr led the way on vault with a career-high score of 9.85. Aubrey Krohnfeldt achieved a career-best 9.90 to claim the title on uneven bars. Tirzah Wise earned first place on balance beam with a 9.875, and Emma Strom tied her career high with a 9.95 to win on floor exercise.
Rotation Highlights
Vault
The GymCats began the evening with a strong showing on vault, achieving a team score of 49.025. Derr’s 9.85 was the highest score of the rotation, followed by Elizabeth LaRusso and Strom, each scoring 9.825. Abigayle Martin contributed a 9.775, while Ainsley Greever and Jessa Janicke both posted 9.75.
Uneven Bars
Arizona continued its momentum on uneven bars, earning a 49.150. Krohnfeldt anchored the lineup with her career-best 9.90. Hillary Puleo and Martin both recorded 9.85, while Derr added a 9.80 and Sadie Smith contributed a 9.75.
Balance Beam
The GymCats maintained their strong performance on balance beam, achieving a score of 49.175. Wise led the team with a 9.875, followed by Gianna Lenczner’s 9.85. Derr and Krohnfeldt each scored 9.825, and Janicke finished the rotation with a 9.80.
Floor Exercise
Arizona sealed the victory on floor exercise with a score of 49.050. Strom anchored the lineup, tying her career high with a 9.95. Martin followed with a 9.85, Riley Carman posted a 9.80, Wise scored 9.775, and LaRusso added a 9.70.
