Enterprise customers can now access OpenAI’s frontier artificial intelligence models directly through Google Cloud, following a partnership that integrates GPT-6 systems into the platform’s Model Garden. The agreement brings GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna into Google Cloud alongside OpenAI’s Codex coding agent, expanding enterprise deployment options beyond Microsoft, which remains OpenAI’s primary cloud partner.
Google Cloud Integrates OpenAI Models Into Model Garden
The new agreement places three core OpenAI models into Google Cloud’s Model Garden in private preview for selected enterprise customers, with general availability expected in the coming weeks. Organizations can select and switch between models without establishing separate vendor contracts. The initial selection includes GPT-6 Astra for demanding coding, computer use, and scientific research; GPT-6.1 Sol for near-Astra intelligence at a lower cost; and GPT-6 Luna as a faster, lower-cost option for everyday tasks at scale. Developers can also connect Codex workflows to Google’s Gemini Agent for inference.
Commercial arrangements allow model usage to be purchased through the Google Cloud Marketplace. Charges appear on a single Google Cloud invoice and count toward existing cloud spending commitments and Flexible Savings Plans. Brian Kane, Director of Cloud Partnerships at OpenAI, stated on LinkedIn that customers can draw down both their spend commitment with OpenAI and their spend commitment with Google Cloud when using OpenAI on Google Cloud. Thomas Kurian, Chief Executive Officer of Google Cloud, noted that the agreement focuses on giving customers a broad selection of models to choose the right tool for any given job to deliver optimal quality and lower costs.

Google Cloud's Use of Isolated Gateways for Data Security
Google Cloud is positioning its existing security and data governance infrastructure to support organizations working with sensitive information under strict regulatory rules. According to the company, customer prompts, context, and outputs remain within designated Google Cloud data perimeters and are not used to train foundation models. Queries run through isolated gateways on dedicated infrastructure, complemented by authenticated identities, centralized access controls, and audit logging across agent and model interactions. Additional safeguards, including Zero Data Retention options and Confidential Compute support, remain in development.
The partnership follows the conclusion of OpenAI’s exclusive distribution arrangement with Microsoft in April, after which OpenAI expanded distribution of its models and Codex coding agent through Amazon Web Services and now Google Cloud. OpenAI is simultaneously expanding ChatGPT ads globally to more than 100,000 advertisers across markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, while keeping ads limited to Free and Go subscription plans.
