Armada House: John Burke and Suzie McAdam Launch New Clare Hotel

Aoibhín Garrihy’s husband, John Burke, has expanded his hospitality portfolio with the opening of Armada House, a newly refurbished property in Spanish Point, County Clare, Ireland. The 19th-century house, acquired by Armada in July 2022, represents the first hotel design project for renowned Irish interior designer Suzie McAdam.

A €2.5 Million Investment in Clare Hospitality

The launch of Armada House follows a €2.5 million investment aimed at creating a premium, four-star hotel experience with a five-star product feel. Situated just 70 meters from the existing Armada Hotel, the refurbished property offers a distinct atmosphere, described as a sanctuary “where time slows.”

Design and Amenities

Suzie McAdam’s design philosophy centers around community, a sense of place and the integration of art and history. The house features 13 high-end bedrooms, a restaurant named Mabel’s (in honor of the last lady of the house), The Piano Room – boasting a piano once owned by Fred Astaire – and a refined Parlour for relaxation. A converted stables now serves as a high-tech event space, available for exclusive bookings.

Luxury touches include Irish-made linen from Inis Meáin, L’Occitane bathroom products, Dyson hair and room products, and chocolates from Grá. Guests can also enjoy welcome drinks from the Armada Cocktail Lab and Perrier-Jouët Champagne.

Art and History

Art plays a central role in the Armada House experience, with a prominent collection curated by Mick O’Dea displayed throughout the property. The design also emphasizes the building’s history, incorporating elements that celebrate its cultural heritage.

Booking and Rates

Armada House is available for full property bookings for special events. Room rates in March start at €315, rising to €605, depending on the room and season. Courtyard rooms are available from €250 nightly during low season, while sea view suites range from €420 to €570 per night (including champagne).
