Arrasate Judo Elkartea Hosts Inaugural Youth Judo Gathering at Uarkape
The Arrasate Judo Elkartea is set to host its first-ever youth judo gathering this Sunday at the Uarkape sports facility. The event is designed to bring together more than 200 young athletes, providing them with a platform to gain competitive experience and foster camaraderie outside of their regular training environments.
Fostering Community and Sportive Values
According to Gaizka Aranegi, a member of the club’s leadership team, the primary objective of the gathering is to offer young judokas the opportunity to connect with peers from other clubs while putting their year-long training into practice. The organizers noted that younger athletes often have fewer opportunities for inter-club competition compared to other sports, a gap this event aims to bridge.

Rather than functioning as a traditional championship, the gathering emphasizes the core values of judo, including respect, friendship, and solidarity. To celebrate their participation, every child will receive a commemorative medal along with refreshments at the conclusion of the event.
Event Logistics and Participation
The gathering is scheduled to run from 09:30 to 13:30 and will be organized into two distinct sessions to accommodate different age groups:
- Session 1: Athletes born between 2018, and 2021.
- Session 2: Athletes born between 2014 and 2017.
The initiative has drawn participants from a wide range of locations, including Ondarroa, Azpeitia, Zumaia, Legazpi, Zarautz, Usurbil, and Arrasate. The organizers have expressed their gratitude to the Arrasate City Council and the various sponsors whose support has been instrumental in making the event possible.
Looking Ahead: A Strong Future for Arrasate Judo
While the current academic and training cycle is nearing its conclusion, the Arrasate Judo Elkartea remains active. Aranegi highlighted that the Sunday gathering is not the final commitment for the club’s members, as the Gipuzkoa Championship and the Spanish Championship for infant and cadet categories remain on the horizon to close out the season.

The club currently supports a community of approximately 50 judokas. Under the guidance of a dedicated leadership team established in recent years, the organization continues to implement new strategies to increase the visibility of the sport and encourage local youth to explore judo as a discipline.
