PORTLAND, Ore. – The 2026 OSAA Wrestling State Championships showcased impressive performances from local athletes across various classifications at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Several area teams and individuals secured state titles, marking historic achievements and long-awaited successes.
Thurston High School Claims 5A Team Title
After three consecutive runner-up finishes, Thurston High School finally captured the Class 5A team championship with a total of 291 points, narrowly defeating Crater in a closely contested race. Key victories in the finals from sophomore Samuel Greenstreet (106 lbs) and junior Michael Salas-Sanchez (120 lbs), who earned his second career state championship, were instrumental in Thurston’s triumph. A significant upset by senior Bill Matheus at 150 pounds, combined with strong performances from other wrestlers, helped secure Thurston’s first team title since 2002.
Harrisburg Dominates in 3A
Harrisburg achieved a dominant performance in the Class 3A competition, winning the boys team championship with 192 points and finishing second in the girls standings with 122 points. Head coach Desmond Bennett emphasized the importance of perseverance and effort, stating, “This sport is more like life than any other sport by far. We just want them to want to never quit out there, give their best effort, be coachable, and so to see all of them do that Saturday was super rewarding.”
Sheldon Ends Title Drought
Sheldon’s Mason Stucky won the Class 6A 157-pound state championship, ending the Irish’s long wait for an individual state champion, which dated back to 2013. Stucky concluded his career with 137 wins and three district titles.
