Artis Šimpermanis Brings Hometown Tour to Bauska Cultural Centre
Artis Šimpermanis will bring his solo concert tour titled “Dzimtās Mājas” to the Bauska Cultural Centre on October 18, bauskasdzive.lv reported. The evening centres on the theme of lifelong roots and foundational homes, featuring beloved melodies, new compositions, and personal conversations. Tickets are available for purchase on the bilesuparadize.lv platform and at physical box offices.
From Rumba Quartet to Solo Success
While audiences widely recognise Šimpermanis as the former vocalist and accordionist of the schlager music group Rumbas Kvartets, he has increasingly focused on his solo career in recent years. His self-penned tracks regularly feature on Latvian Television’s “Latvijas sirdsdziesma” poll. During the 2024/2025 season, his song “Dzimtās mājas” secured second place in the viewer poll.
The formation of Rumbas Kvartets happened by chance when four Kuldīga natives—Šimpermanis on accordion, Guntis Stucers on tuba, Rolands Stucers on euphonium, and Varlijs Štromanis on percussion—performed together at a village dance. The group eventually evolved into one of the country’s prominent schlager ensembles. Šimpermanis notes that music has served as his primary profession for approximately five years.
Childhood Memories in Kuldīga and Ventspils
The inspiration for the tour stems from the musician’s upbringing. Šimpermanis associates his native home with his childhood in Kuldīga, where he lived before moving to Riga after high school and meeting his wife. He also spent extended childhood summers visiting his grandparents in Ventspils.
“Nowadays, it’s not as common for young people, but I’m from that generation where, at the start of the summer school break, you were taken to the countryside to your grandparents in Ventspils, and in August, a week before school, brought home,” Šimpermanis told bauskasdzive.lv. He recalls those summers fondly, noting that the hard work in beet fields was always accompanied by music from his accordion-playing father and singing grandparents.
Gardening and Fishing Off the Stage
Outside of his touring schedule and home recording studio work, Šimpermanis spends his weekends traveling and dedicates Mondays to rest and hobbies. He maintains a keen interest in gardening and greenhouse cultivation. Following the acquisition of his motorcycle license, he began touring on two wheels during the summer months. Fishing along the Venta River remains one of his primary personal retreats.
