AS Trenčín Appoints Marek Ďanovský After Dismissing Ricardo Moniz

AS Trenčín appointed Marek Ďanovský as its new head coach following the departure of Ricardo Moniz, Šport.sk reported. The coaching change affects the senior team, the reserve squad, and the club academy as the Slovak club sits at the bottom of the Niké liga table.

Departure of Ricardo Moniz Following a Four-Game Losing Streak

AS Trenčín ended its cooperation with Dutch coach Ricardo Moniz after a 0-1 home defeat against MFK Dukla Banská Bystrica on Saturday, according to TERAZ.sk. Moniz returned to lead the A-team in June 2025 for his second stint under club ownership, but poor results cut the tenure short. Sportnet noted that after nine league matches in the 2026/27 campaign, the club accumulated only five points from one victory, two draws, and six losses, leaving the team in 12th place. The decision follows an evaluation of the current season’s progress and mutual communication with the manager, and the club thanked him on its official website for the work dedicated to Trenčín during both of his tenures.

Marek Ďanovský Steps Up From the B-Team to Lead the Senior Squad

Marek Ďanovský moves up from his role managing the reserve team in the third tier of Slovak football to take charge of the senior squad. Sportnet reported that Ďanovský previously achieved success with the club’s under-17 and under-19 squads, including youth league participation. His first match in charge takes place this week in the Slovnaft Cup. Meanwhile, Karol Karlík joins the senior coaching staff from the under-19 setup, and Peter Kleščík takes over leadership of the B-team. Before the start of the 2025/26 season, Ďanovský became the head coach of the newly formed reserve team to oversee the transition of young players from youth to senior football, continuing on the bench of the reserve squad in the ongoing 2026/27 season and leading the B-team in a league fixture against FK Beluša over the weekend.
