Atomos Unveils Sumo PRO-19 and Rebuilds Product Line After Leadership Shift

At NAB 2026, Atomos unveiled its most expansive product lineup in years, signaling a strategic pivot from on-camera monitoring to a full-spectrum production ecosystem.

The centerpiece of this shift is the recent Sumo PRO-19, a 19-inch 4K HDR monitor-recorder-switcher designed for multi-camera monitoring, on-set review, and video village workflows. Built around camera control, NDI HX3, and camera-to-cloud connectivity, it integrates CFexpress recording, AirGlu timecode sync, and Wi-Fi/Ethernet capabilities to serve as a central hub for collaboration on set.

According to Atomos CEO Peter Barber, the product launch is part of a broader recovery effort following a turbulent post-COVID period marked by leadership changes, inventory issues, and stalled innovation. Barber, who joined the company as COO in early 2024 before becoming CEO in May 2025, said his mandate from the board was clear: rebuild the engineering team, refresh the product line, and expand the ecosystem beyond its traditional strengths.

That effort began with a complete overhaul of the Ninja and Shinobi lines. Starting last summer, the 5-inch Ninja family was rebuilt around CFexpress Type B media, brighter HDR displays, and integrated camera control. The rollout included the flagship NXT, the HDMI-only NXT Head, and the more accessible Ninja RAW priced at $699, demonstrating a renewed focus on both performance, and accessibility.

The company’s evolution was further underscored by its recent acquisition of Flanders Scientific, a respected name in professional reference monitoring. This move, combined with the launch of the Sumo PRO-19, positions Atomos to compete not just in on-camera tools but also in post-production and finishing environments where color accuracy and signal integrity are paramount.

At the NAB booth, Barber reflected on the company’s journey, noting that many of its legacy products had become outdated, relying on older recording formats that no longer met professional demands. The reinvestment in engineering has already yielded a steady cadence of releases, with seven new products showcased at the event — the broadest lineup in the company’s recent history.

The Sumo PRO-19 itself features a 3840 x 2160 HDR touchscreen with 1200 cd/m² brightness, HDMI 2.0 and 12G-SDI inputs/outputs, and support for ProRes 12-bit, RAW, and DNxHR codecs. It enables quad-split viewing and switching between four inputs, with SDI quad switching and ISO recording capabilities for up to four channels at resolutions up to 8K30. Additional features include XLR audio I/O, optional V-Mount or Gold Mount power options, and wireless timecode sync via Bluetooth and AirGlu RF.

Positioned as both a field monitor and a studio reference tool, the device delivers 10-stop dynamic range and 10-bit processing, with real-time HDR conversion and log-to-HDR or PQ/HLG playback. Familiar assist tools like waveform, focus peaking, false color, and vectorscope remain integrated into the calibrated screen, while its size and brightness build it suitable for apply by focus pullers, DITs, and 1st ACs on set.

The unit is currently available for preorder, with Atomos emphasizing its role in enabling instant dailies through direct recording to SSD media — a feature aimed at streamlining workflows for cinematographers working in log or raw formats who need immediate feedback on exposure and dynamic range.

How does the Sumo PRO-19 improve upon previous Atomos monitor-recorders?

It adds SDI quad switching, ISO recording, NDI HX3, camera-to-cloud workflows, and a larger 19-inch 4K HDR display with 1200 cd/m² brightness — features not previously combined in a single Atomos unit.
