European rally champion Miko Marczyk set a new Guinness World Record on September 11 by driving a standard production Audi A6 e-tron Sportback 1,338 kilometers on a single charge through Poland. The feat surpassed the previous record of 1,205 kilometers set last year by a Lucid Air Grand Touring between Switzerland and Germany, according to official company announcements and reporting by iAuto.lv.
Nightfall Departure Along the Vistula River
Marczyk started his journey at night, navigating a route along the Vistula River toward the Hel Peninsula on the Baltic Sea before completing the return leg. The endurance run lasted more than 45 hours through an average ambient air temperature of approximately 15 degrees Celsius.
Aerodynamic Engineering Meets Record Efficiency
During the journey, the electric vehicle achieved an average energy consumption of 7.09 kWh per 100 kilometers. Audi attributes this efficiency primarily to the vehicle’s aerodynamics, noting that the A6 e-tron features a drag coefficient of 0.21 Cd, which makes it the most aerodynamic production Audi model in history. Aerodynamic drag typically accounts for roughly 40 percent of an electric vehicle’s energy consumption.
Standard Production Power and Performance Specs
The record attempt utilized a standard production vehicle rather than a stripped-down prototype. The Audi A6 Sportback e-tron performance is equipped with a 94,9 kWh net capacity battery and a 367-horsepower electric motor that accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds.
Hypermiling Tactics Double the Official WLTP Range
While Audi rates the model for up to 777 kilometers of range under the WLTP cycle, Marczyk’s run nearly doubled that figure through careful efficiency management. The driving style mirrored hypermiling techniques, resulting in an average speed of under 30 km/h over the 45-hour duration.
