Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, bringing a massive open world featuring over 170 animal species, dynamic weather systems, and advanced non-player character AI to Rockstar Games’ franchise.
Open World Scale and Environment Design
The map in Grand Theft Auto VI is twice the size of the map featured in Grand Theft Auto V. Rockstar Games has populated this expanded geography with varied ecosystems and advanced environmental systems. A dynamic cloud system introduces multiple cloud types that drift across the map, while an advanced weather setup brings severe conditions including tropical storms and hurricanes.
Wildlife Diversity and Behavioral Technology
Players will encounter more than 170 animal species across the game’s terrain, including more than 60 bird species, 30 land mammals, and various fish, reptiles, and other animals. Confirmed wildlife includes flamingos, manatees, pelicans, sharks, whales, stingrays, turtles, jellyfish, alligators, and invasive species such as green iguanas, giant toads, feral cats, and macaques. Many of these species have not appeared in previous Rockstar Games titles.
Building on technology developed for Red Dead Redemption 2, animal models feature intricate physical details such as visible scales, light reflections, and fully simulated fur. Animal fur responds dynamically to environmental interactions, changing texture when wet or accumulating dirt that causes it to clump.
Non-Player Character Detail and Customization
Non-player characters feature an unprecedented level of individual detail. Character models vary significantly in height, body type, muscle definition, and weight distribution across specific areas such as the chest, abdomen, and hips. Individual appearances include diverse skin tones, freckles, moles, tans, culturally specific tattoo styles, hairstyles, and varied body hair grooming.
Activities and Gameplay Features
Players can access a wide range of recreational activities and transport options throughout the world. Confirmed gameplay pursuits include pool, gym visits, kayaking, street racing, off-road racing, zoo visits, hovercraft driving, water sports with jet skis, and base jumping.
