East Austin Homicide: Man Identified as Nicholas Zarate
AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) is investigating a homicide that occurred Sunday evening in East Austin, near the Mueller area. The victim has been identified as Nicholas Zarate, 47, according to police reports.
Details of the Incident
Officers responded to a report of a disturbance and possible shooting at 4700 Loyola Lane around 5:07 p.m. On Sunday. Upon arrival at approximately 5:10 p.m., they discovered a man lying on the ground with injuries deemed “incompatible with life.” Zarate was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:28 p.m. KXAN reported.
Investigation Status
Detectives and crime scene specialists are currently investigating the incident. Preliminary reports indicate that Zarate was shot by a suspect who fled the scene on foot.
