Bad News Brown to be Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame’s Legacy Class of 2026

WWE legend Bad News Brown will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a legacy inductee as part of the Class of 2026. The announcement was made by Triple H on X, formerly known as Twitter, on March 26, 2026.

From Olympic Judo to WWE Stardom

Before his career in professional wrestling, Brown was a decorated judoka, winning a bronze medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. This achievement made him the first African American to win a solo Olympic Games medal in a sport other than boxing or track and field . He as well secured gold medals at the Pan American Games in 1967 and 1975 and was a five-time Amateur Athletic Union judo heavyweight champion .

WWE Career and Impact

Bad News Brown joined WWE in 1988, quickly establishing a unique and intimidating presence. He was known for his reclusive nature and refusal to form alliances, setting him apart from the more flamboyant characters of the era . A defining moment in his WWE career was winning the battle royal at WrestleMania IV by last eliminating Bret Hart, which sparked a notable feud between the two . He also had rivalries with Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan, and Roddy Piper during his two-year run.

Stampede Wrestling and NJPW

Prior to his time in WWE, Brown spent six years in Stampede Wrestling, becoming a prominent performer from 1982 to 1988 . He also had extensive tours with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) throughout his career.

Legacy and Hall of Fame Ceremony

Bad News Brown passed away on March 6, 2007, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 63, following a heart attack . The WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Friday, April 17, during WrestleMania 42 weekend at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Brown joins Sycho Sid, Dennis Rodman, AJ Styles, Demolition, and Stephanie McMahon as inductees in the 2026 class .
