The Baldwinsville boys wrestling squad has been working toward building up a strong program.

So far in the 2025-26 season, the work is paying off. The Bees captured the Section III Class AA crown with 208.5 points following a solid performance in Saturday’s tournament at PSLA @ Fowler.

West Genesee finished second (186), Fayetteville-Manlius came in third (185.5), Cicero-North Syracuse took fourth (161.5) and J-D/CBA placed fifth (132).

It is the first time that Baldwinsville has won a class team trophy since the 2015-16 season.

The Bees had five wrestlers in the championship finals, with four of them coming out on top.

“We’ve got a tough team,” Baldwinsville coach Tony Burkinshaw said. “We had guys battle back in their brackets and take third. That put the nail in the coffin for us.”

Baldwinsville’s Zach Boudreau, who’s posting a 33-0 record so far this season, pinned C-NS’s Grady Ellsworth at 1:39.

In the 118-pound title match, the Bees’ William Lamson won a 12-4 major decision over West Genesee’s Cole Willis.

At 126, Baldwinsville’s Cael Bruce took home the title following a 10-0 major decision over F-M’s Joseph Rafuse.

Scotty Warner, competing at 144 pounds, recorded a 12-9 decision over F-M’s Eric Kozlowski in the championship bout.

Burkinshaw said that the Bees’ lightweights have been “lights out.”

“They’ve put in the work, time and commitment,” Burkinshaw added. “They have a belief in the system and what we do.”

In the 103-pound final, West Genesee’s Aiden Wright won an 11-4 decision over J-D/CBA’s Biruk Royal.

J-D/CBA turned the tables in the 132-pound title bout, when Dominic Schiano recorded a 4-0 decision over West Genesee’s Brennan Kline.

Victor Petronella of New Hartford-Saquoit Valley-Utica captured the 138-pound crown by forfeit.

In the 150-pound championship bout, West Genesee’s Logan Willis pinned Liverpool’s William Cowan at the 3:19-mark.

Then, at the 157-pound title match, West Genesee’s Austin Fesinger notched a 5-2 decision against J-D/CBA’s Kai Vien.

F-M’s Jacob Pavlov won by fall at 1:08 over Cicero-North Syracuse’s Carlo Abboud in the 165-pound championship match.

At 175, F-M’s Harrison Schwab grabbed the trophy following a 5-3 decision over Baldwinsville’s Davian Longo.

Syracuse’s Ryan Brown won by technical fall (21-6, 3:17) over his teammate, Jeffrey Petties, in the 190-pound title bout.

In the 215-pound championship bout, C-NS’s Kaydin Welch pinned F-M’s Caleb Haase at 1:51.

Christopher Belmonte of New Hartford-Saquoit Valley-Utica took home the 285-pound crown after he pinned Syracuse’s Emran Akhtari in seven seconds.

The inter-class sectional tournament is next Saturday at the SRC Arena at Onondaga Community College.

The Bees have qualified 11 wrestlers for next weekend’s tournament.

Baldwinsville didn’t have an opportunity to compete for the Section III Division I dual championship in January due to the weather, so Burkinshaw sees the inter-class tourney as a second opportunity to get the team title.

“I’d like to win because I believe we have a team that can do it,” Burkinshaw said. “This is our opportunity to see if we have a chance. I think the guys we’re sending will make some noise, so it’s going to be fun next Saturday.”
