The Tunisian Handball Federation has issued a statement announcing the acceptance of the resignation of the national handball team head coach, Mohamed Ali Sghir, as well as that of his assistant, Mohamed Ali Boughazala.
Below is the text of the statement:
The Federal Executive Board convened on Saturday morning, 7 February 2026, to review reports from the National Technical Directorate, along with those of the technical and administrative staff of the senior national team. The meeting was held in the presence of the senior team’s head coach, Mr. Mohamed Ali Sghir, who presented his technical assessment of the team’s most recent participation in the Africa Cup of Nations “Rwanda 2026,” outlined his vision for the future of the national team, and explained the reasons that led him to submit his resignation, together with assistant national coach Mr. Mohamed Ali Boughazala.
The Federal Executive Board discussed the resignation submitted by the national team’s technical staff and condemned the malicious smear campaigns carried out by certain parties, which strayed from the expected framework of debate and technical criticism to target the national coach personally, without due regard for his career as a former international player or his long-standing experience as a coach with youth national teams—tenures during which he achieved the most notable results in the history of Tunisian handball.
Following in-depth discussions among the members, after addressing all questions and clarifying numerous points, the Federal Executive Board unanimously decided to accept the resignation of Mr. Mohamed Ali Sghir, head coach of the national team, and Mr. Mohamed Ali Boughazala, assistant national coach.
The Federal Executive Board also expressed its sincere thanks and deep appreciation to both coaches, commending the significant efforts they made during their tenure with the senior national team, as well as their work with youth selections within the framework of the National Technical Directorate’s program aimed at renewing the national elite. The Board concluded by wishing them every success in the continuation of their professional careers.
