Barry Connell: Castlegar, Galway Mourns Unexpected Loss
The community of Castlegar, Galway, is in mourning following the unexpected death of Barry Connell on Thursday, March 5th, 2026. Connell passed away peacefully at Galway University Hospital after receiving excellent care from paramedics, according to a death notice published on rip.ie.
A Life Remembered
Barry Connell is survived by his children, Emma, Stevie, and Luke. His parents, Stephen Connell and Patricia Philbin, shared the deeply saddened news of his passing. He will be deeply missed by his heartbroken family, relatives, and friends.
Funeral Arrangements
Funeral arrangements have been announced to allow those who knew and loved Barry to pay their respects:
- Monday, March 9th, 2026: Barry will lie in repose at the O’Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue, (H91 V1K8) from 5:30 p.m. To 7:00 p.m. There will be no removal to Castlegar Church this evening.
- Tuesday, March 10th, 2026: A Funeral Mass in Celebration of Barry’s life will commence at 11 a.m. On arrival at St. Columba’s Church, Castlegar.
- Following the Mass, Barry will be laid to rest in Rinville Cemetery, Oranmore, a location cherished by his children for its proximity to playgrounds, walking paths, and the sea.
Live Streaming and Condolences
For those unable to attend in person, the Funeral Mass will be live-streamed, and can also be heard on the Parish Radio at 103.3FM. The family has requested that messages of sympathy be left in the online condolence section, as a physical book of condolence will not be available at the funeral.
