Battlefield 6 Season 2: Extreme Measures Arrives with Fresh Maps, Weapons and Gameplay Improvements
Electronic Arts is set to launch Season 2, titled “Extreme Measures,” for Battlefield 6 on February 17, 2026, bringing a host of updates including new maps, weapons, gameplay improvements, and a limited-time mode. The season aims to address community feedback and enhance the overall player experience.
New Maps: Contaminated and Hagental Base
Season 2 will introduce two new maps to Battlefield 6. The first, “Contaminated,” is a German airbase located in the Bavarian mountains, comparable in size to St. Quentin Scar from Battlefield 1. It features rocky terrain and supports all vehicle types, including the AH-6 Little Bird and MH-350 helicopters. Later in the season, “Hagental Base” will arrive – an infantry-focused map set within an underground base.
Limited-Time Modes: VL-7 Strike and More
Alongside the new maps, Season 2 will feature several limited-time modes. “VL-7 Strike” will debut with the “Contaminated” map, introducing psychoactive smoke that creates hallucinatory effects. Players will need to locate masks and filters to navigate the smoke safely. This smoke mechanic will also be available in REDSEC’s Gauntlet Altered State knockout format and Synthesis mode, allowing players to call in VL-7 strikes. Another limited-time mode is planned for later in the season, requiring players to battle through a darkened underground base.
Weapon and Gadget Additions
Players can expect six new weapons and several gadgets in Season 2. The initial phase will include:
- GRT-CPS marksman rifle
- VCR-2 assault rifle
- M121 A2 light machine gun
- 9K38 IGLA air defense launcher (for Engineers)
- HTI-MK2 hardware suppression system (for Recon)
Gameplay Improvements
Season 2 focuses on refining the core gameplay experience with several key improvements:
- Progression Improvements: Challenge parameters have been broadened, reducing mode-specific requirements and removing the daily sidearm challenge. Assists now count towards Daily Challenges. Battle Pass progression has been accelerated, with increased Career XP and Weapon XP earn rates for Battle Royale and Gauntlet in Battlefield Redsec.
- Weapon Handling: Recoil compensation will be fully consistent across all weapons, providing more predictable handling.
- Player Movement: Updates to acceleration, vaulting, and ladder transitions will improve overall movement fluidity.
- Audio Clarity: Improved game audio will enhance clarity during gameplay.
Further Development
Developers are also working on additional gameplay improvements, including hit registration and a ping system for map locations. A full Season Roadmap with more details is expected to be revealed at the end of the week. Electronic Arts has also released an anti-cheat report detailing efforts to combat cheating attempts within Battlefield 6.
