‘He just makes the difference’ — Nadiem Amiri on Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise

Following Bayern Munich’s dramatic 4-3 comeback victory over Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, Mainz attacker Nadiem Amiri praised Michael Olise as the best player in the world.

Bayern Munich overcame a 3-0 halftime deficit to secure the win, with Olise playing a pivotal role after being introduced in the second half. Vincent Kompany brought on Olise, Harry Kane, and Jamal Musiala at halftime, and all three went on to score in the comeback.

Olise’s impact was immediate, forcing Mainz to allocate significant defensive resources to contain him. His presence not only disrupted Mainz’s rhythm but also exponentially increased Bayern’s scoring chances. Olise sealed the victory with a curling goal in the 73rd minute, a shot noted for its low probability of success.

Speaking after the match, Amiri acknowledged Olise’s exceptional quality.

“For me, Michael Olise is the best player in the world currently. He just makes the difference,” said Amiri, as captured by @iMiaSanMia.

Amiri also reflected on his team’s performance, expressing disbelief at how quickly the lead evaporated despite a strong first half.

“I’m a bit lost for words. We played an incredible first half. We knew we’d riled Bayern and what was in store for us,” Amiri told Sky after the match.

He added that although Mainz should not have conceded the lead, the comeback exemplified why Bayern Munich are currently the best team in the world.

Bayern Munich, having already secured the Bundesliga title, are set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals later in April 2026.
