Ben Lynch’s Halfpipe Olympic Debut Delayed Due to Weather in Milano-Cortina
Milano-Cortina, Italy – Irish freestyle skier Ben Lynch will have to postpone his Winter Olympic debut after the men’s halfpipe event was rescheduled due to adverse weather conditions at the Livigno Snow Park in Valtellina. The event has been pushed back 24 hours, with qualifying now set for Friday.
Weather Forces Reschedule
Continued snowfall and worsening conditions prompted organizers to delay the men’s halfpipe competition. Lynch, 23, was originally scheduled to compete in the qualification round at 9:30 am today. The final was slated for tomorrow, but will now be rescheduled accordingly.

IOC Response to Weather Delays
International Olympic Committee spokesperson Mark Adams acknowledged the challenges posed by the weather, stating, “Snow is an occupational hazard in winter sports and they are well used to dealing with delays and changes and bad weather. Very often there are problems with snow, they can be dealt with, we’re used to it, the federations are used to it – it’s something we have to perform with unfortunately.” [Source: RTÉ]
Halfpipe Competition Details
The halfpipe event challenges athletes to perform tricks and grabs while launching off the walls of a 22-foot high, U-shaped snow structure. The women’s halfpipe qualification, originally scheduled for this evening, is currently expected to proceed as planned.
