Police in Bielefeld are searching for an unknown robber who stole a gold necklace and crucifix pendant from a 36-year-old local resident on Herforder Straße during the night of Friday, July 30, 2026, according to the Bielefeld Police Directorate.
The victim arrived at the Bielefeld central station at approximately 23:20 and walked toward the city center, according to police reports. An unidentified male followed the victim and approached him near Zimmerstraße on Herforder Straße to ask for a light. When the victim used a lighter to ignite a cigarette for the suspect, the assailant struck him in the chest and snatched the gold necklace from his neck before the victim realized what was happening.
To prevent a further altercation, the victim continued walking away from the scene before realizing his jewelry was missing. After looking unsuccessfully for the perpetrator, the victim filed a formal report at the East Police Station, according to police statements.
Suspect Description and Investigation Details
Investigators from Criminal Inspectorate 13 released a description of the suspect provided by the victim. The assailant is described as approximately 30 years old, 1.85 meters tall, and of a slim build. Police noted that the suspect had a North African appearance, dark, long, and frizzy hair, and was wearing a cap and a backpack at the time of the robbery.
The Bielefeld Police Directorate urges witnesses or anyone with information regarding the robbery or the identity of the suspect to contact Criminal Inspectorate 13 at 0521/545-0.
